而且還能因為過去太多人裝病或翹班去購物，後來索性變成國定假日!

但那麼好康的事，為甚麼要叫「黑色」星期五，而不是選開心一點的黃色或是熱情如火的紅色呢?

The first recorded use of the term “Black Friday” was applied not to holiday shopping but to financial crisis: specifically, the crash of the U.S. gold market on September 24, 1869.

原來「黑色星期五」起初不是被用在民眾瘋狂購物的聖誕前夕，而是在1869年9月24日美國金市發生的財務風暴上。

"'Black Friday' is the name that the Philadelphia Police Department gave to the Friday following Thanksgiving Day. It is not a term of endearment for them. 'Black Friday' officially opens the Christmas shopping season in center city. It usually brings massive traffic jams and over-crowded sidewalks as the downtown stores are mobbed from opening to closing."

後來呢，費城的警察當局為感恩節後的第一個星期五命名為「黑色星期五」，而這天也是正式開啟聖誕購物季的首日，正因為大家瘋狂購物的行徑，通常交通也因此而壅塞不堪，街道也是人滿為患，很多城中商店從開門到休息都塞滿了人，因此也發生許多交通意外，也有危及人身安全的踩踏及暴力衝突，也難怪警方會將這天取一個那麼暗黑的名字啊!

Accountants use black to signify profit when recording each day's book entries. They use red to indicate loss. So, Black Friday means profitable Friday to retailing and to the economy.

也有另一個說法是, 這天對於許多商家都是大賺一筆的日子，而會計記帳時，帳本上用黑色字體代表獲益，紅色代表虧損，因此這天結帳時商家的帳本一錠都是黑壓壓的一片，就會是「黑色星期五」囉。

In recent years, the best black friday deal are not on Black Friday. Many retailers offer their best deals earlier. Many people also wait until Green Monday in mid-December to take advantage of last-minute bargains.

近幾年，最殺的黑五折扣並非「黑色星期五」當天，多數商家都會更早提供最好的優惠。很多人也會等到十二月中旬的「綠色星期一」做「最後衝刺」。
